letter from NZ to England

 November 24 1866

Dear family

I have arrived in new Zealand by ship. The ride took 6 weeks it was cold wet and windy. I am happy to be on solid ground and not on water.

My house is made out of wood and is cold. My dad made is and is is not that comfy there are rats in the roof.

I do the washing I do the dishes.

Life is really hard and I don't like it.

How are the pets and my little cousins doing?

Lots of love Renee

  1. Hi Renee. You show that you've learnt what life was like and how hard it was for the early settlers. Its a pity you didn't tell us a little about what life on the ship was like as well. I especially like the end of your letter where you ask about your pets and cousins back in England.
Do you think some of the settlers might have gotten homesick missing the family that stayed behind?
